How to Have the Best. Day. Ever.

In early February I was asked by my leadership team to be the keynote speaker at our CenterPoint continuing education program for all of our 10 practices of dentists and dental professionals. This totals more than 100 people. I immediately said yes, because it’s always good to step outside your box and do something new, right? When the reality that I’d be on stage, setting the mood for the whole event, with many eyes watching my every move for over an hour set in, so did a bit of anxiety and panic – but mostly I was thoroughly excited and challenged to prove myself.

I spoke on something totally different than the traditional dental CE event topics, though. I spoke on how to have the Best Day Ever—7 different practices to ramp up your life in simple, effective ways. All of them were based on things I myself do, or speakers I’ve heard do, or were taken from books I’ve read and loved, so I was knowledgeable about each one. The topics were based on an acronym:

B—Blast your day off with the 5 Second Rule. Based on the 5 second rule by Mel Robbins in which you take action in a small 5 second window of time before your brain talks you out of it.

E—Eat like a Champion. Time-honored tips for fueling your body with premium nutrition.

S—Sleep your Way to Success…. (Erm..… not that kind of success) how to get the best night sleep ever, in order to rock your day. Based on the Arianna Huffington book, Thrive.

T—The Miracle Morning. The movement and book written by Hal Elrod that provides a structure for kicking your day off on the right foot with YOUR priorities front and center.

D—Direction/Clarity. A pre-week planning method explained by the book High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard, that helps you focus on the specifics that will make you most productive and fulfilled.

A—Appreciation. Ways to show gratitude, love, and positivity to those around you.

Y—Your mindset. Taking 100% ownership of all of your decisions and how they affect your life.

I punctuated the learning with videos from team members, their kids, spoofs on dieting, and memes, GIFs, and pictures to keep the content interesting and the audience engaged. Here’s one of my favorites showing the importance of affirmation. Notably, it was the first time that I’ve ever spoken on a stage without hand-held notes and not READ my presentation word-for-word. All in all, it was a big growth event in my professional life. I’m proud of myself for agreeing to do it and being “All In”. I’m also thankful to be on a team with such encouraging and uplifting individuals who cheered me on the entire way. Let’s just say I now have a newfound respect for speakers everywhere!

The biggest take-away was: Your BEST DAY is not just a once in a lifetime thing, a rare treat, a mystical thing that will happen “someday”. It can happen each day. Simple changes and additions will result in your BEST days going forward!

I’d love to share more with you about the different pieces of this presentation. Let me know what you would like to hear more about and I will hook you up! For now, here are just some of the resources referenced in my presentation:
